Sometimes traveling Skyrim by yourself can be lonely, but not every character would welcome human companionship – or maybe you don’t want to deal with the other aspects of the follower system like managing inventory and equipment. Maybe your character (or you!) is an animal lover. And sometimes you just need a furry friend because not having one at your side feels wrong. In this list, I’ve compiled a collection of the best animal and creature follower mods for both special edition and legendary (classic) edition I could find, taking into account variety and functionality.
Dogs & Wolves
Garm the Husky Companion / (SSE)
A feature-rich dog/husky follower with many appearance options available, both lore-friendly and unique. Doesn’t trigger traps, has max stealth skill, and is overall a very well developed follower.
Meeko Reborn
In total, over 1,000 lines of dialogue for the 18 vanilla follower voicetypes were added in; some exactly as they are found elsewhere in the game, others with minor edits, cuts or recombinations where this could be done without ruining the audio quality. 'Follower Commentary Overhaul(FCO), almost exclusively adds idle follower comments only. DFD on the other hand, adds new NPC greetings, farewells, combat starting, combat ending, combat taunts, follower commands, and a few follower idle comments with some being quest specific.
While my criteria for most of these mods is that they add new animals rather than editing existing ones, this one was too good to pass up. Adds a variety of unique appearance options and features to vanilla dog follower Meeko, including a summon spell, enhanced stealth, and making him essential so you never have to worry about Meeko dying on you again.
Jun 14, 2017 Several unique voices have also been given fully voiced follower dialogue. These include: Brynjolf, Delvin Mallory, Karliah, Vex, Valerica, Isran, and Knight-Paladin Gelebor. Any NPC that supports follower dialogue can be made into a follower or removed as a follower through the MCM. Followers will now use dialogue in every aspect of combat. A stat-based Dynamic Personality System, where Lucien may gain or lose Approval or Bravery based on his interactions with you and the choices you make, altering his behaviour and dialogue. Dec 31, 2012 help, created follower has no dialogue options - posted in Skyrim Mod Troubleshooting: Need help. I created a custom follower using the creation kit and it turned out to work fine. Except for one thing: when I press the 'use' button on her she just keeps talking. The follower options are not showing up.
Vigilance Reborn
Just like the above mod, adds a bunch of useful features to the vanilla dog companion Vigilance: unique appearances, cannot be killed, ability to call him to your side, and more.
Fenrir the Frost Wolf
An icy themed wolf follower, Fenrir has a unique appearance and the ability to cast several frost spells. Also comes with his own summoning spell.
Doge – The Husky Companion
A simple black and white husky companion with HD fur and eye textures. Has a few appearance varieties, such as with or without armor, and eye color options. Doesn’t set off traps or stealth meter.
Judah – Working Dog
A German Shepard Dog follower with enhanced attacking abilities and custom dialogue commands.
True Meeko
Several cute appearance options for vanilla dog Meeko. Also makes him essential and allows him to level with you.
Wolf Master
Adds a small dungeon that, one completed, allows you to recruit several wolf companions. Also includes options for allowing several wolves to follow you.
Doge Reborn – Shiba Inu companion
A cute Shiba Inu follower dog. Has optional black fur version.
Rex the German Shepherd Companion / (SSE)
Adds a family of German Shepard Dogs to Dragonsreach in Whiterun, with a couple different appearances.
Asky – almost like a real dog
A dog with many unique features, including its own blanket and food bowl, loyalty system, and feeding requirements.
Daruk The Fire Wolf
An essential, flaming wolf companion. For when you need a dog that’s also on fire all the time.
Black and White Dog
As the name implies, a dog with a custom textured black and white coat pattern. Also has a brown version of the same texture.
Amaterasu – The Great Spirit
A wolf with a very unique design and textures based on a Japanese deity. Comes with its own MCM menu for customization and a summoning shout.
Melpomene -The Spectral Warhound Follower
A unique looking spectral dog follower, with custom dialogue options.
Cats and Sabre Cats
Sabretooth – the loyal Sabrecat Companion / (SSE)
A feature-rich sabre cat follower with his own bonding/perks system, texture options with in-game selection, and custom commands.
Cats of Skyrim
Adds all sorts of domestic and wild cats to many areas in the game, including purchasable/adoptable cats.
Jango
A rideable sabre cat with enhanced health regen, summoning spell, and item to enable/disable following or waiting in a specific location.
Loki the Panther Follower
A panther follower with custom appearance/meshes and craftable collars.
Tanback
Adds a sabrecat follower with custom sounds, textures, dialogue options, and is essential.
Guenhwyvar
A summonable panther follower with custom dialogue commands. Unfortunately only lasts for 6 hours per day, but can be resummoned daily or force-recruited with a follower mod like EFF to last permanently.
Charlie – A Cat Follower
A cute house cat follower with several color options.

Hey skyrimmods,
I'm doing a clean install of Skyrim SE, and am trying to tune the game in a few specific ways. I'm hoping to get some input and avice for mods I should (or should not) consider.
Gameplay & 'Feel':
A lot of little things about Skyrim just don't feel good to me. Movement, jumping, aiming at things in third person… switching from first and third person… so on, it all feels floaty, clunky, and unresponsive. I am sure part of that is my hardware and lower FPS (~30-40 with ENB), but I also know Skyrim's general design is also at fault.
3rd Person Camera/Aim
The Cursor in third person does not reflect what is actually 'targeted' by the game, the cursor can be on one item on a counter and I'll be getting information for another item that's nearby. I can't explain how much frustration this brings to me, even if it's a really small thing. This might be unrelated, and a result of other (incorrectly?) installed mods, but often times my character will randomly be looking off in a totally different direction (usually down) from where the cursor/camera is aimed. Is there a mod that fixes this?
Responsiveness
There's some measure of acceleration when a player goes from stationary to moving, and there's also lots of transitional periods between actions where other actions can't be performed. Some of this is tied to how animations work in the game and others–I'm pretty sure–are tied to how actions, etc are coded. Speeding up and minimizing these things as much as possible would result in a better experience for me, I think. Even if it's less immersive or more jerky/gamey, I'd prefer that. Animation mods that better match this kind of gameplay would be appreciated.
Are there any mods out there that make stealth gameplay more interesting? More like a game built around it?
Speed
Somewhat related to the previous point, the game just feels slow. Are there any options to speed up everything, or most things (exclude speech/sound, for example) by something like 10%? There are times when I want to slow down and enjoy the scenic route but most of the time I Gotta Go Fast
Dialogue
Are there any options for making dialogue more responsive to 'skipping' and ending conversations? It often feels like the game is hanging up when leaving a conversation or skipping a skippable piece of dialogue.
Look & Aesthetics:
I really like what Immersion ENB(https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/33913) does to the game, in general. Given my frustration with the game's 'responsiveness' as mentioned above, I'm not sure an ENB is actually worth the performance hit. I also have personally had some gripes with how certain things look using this perticular ENB, a lot of distant things are washed-out and look black and white, but mostly white with outlines? It's kinda weird and an eyesore.
Cartoon/Cell-Shaded look
Are there any less demanding ways to give Skyrim this look? I'd prefer this or a more 'sytlized' and simple aesthetic than the general photorealistic vibe most mods go for. I'm even partial to the oversimplified, more performance-friendly options if you would recommend a specific one of those. My main concern is that things added by mods, etc, probably will not fit that look without an ENB or filter.
Variety
I want characters, in particular, to look different from each other. The races should have different builds, individuals should have varying shapes and sizes, too. More variance in cookie-cutter NPCs like guards and bandits, etc, would be nice too.
Lighting
More dynamic light/shadows would be great. Qualcomm driver for mac os. Also, more cool glowing fantasy stuff would be a plus.
Detail
In pursuit of the cartoony look mentioned above, I'm not too worried about detail or higher-resolution textures. I'd prefer softer things with higher contrast that would play well with a filter/ENB that's making things look cartoony.
Followers:
'I wanna be the Follower!'
I am aware of some of the (older) follower mods like Vilja, where the player is able to follow the NPC on tasks they are interested in. I like the idea, and would be interested in quality content like that. I want to be supporting and protecting another character rather than being a muder hobo with a harem following them around.
Supporting from behind the scenes:
Are there any mods that would allow followers to be taking the lead through dungeons? Where I could follow behind them with ranged weapons and sneak attacks, or healing/supportive magic?
Game World:
I want to feel like the game is happening around me, and like things change without me.

Skyrim with Mods - Making A Game Great Again
Back in 2011, I was around 8 years old and my experience with video games were 100% all shitty movie tie-in games for some reason. I 'liked' video games, but I didn't genuinely 'love' video games if that made any sense. Then, out of nowhere, my older cousin introduced me…
Follower Requests?
I'm unsure if this is even possible or if there is anyone that would be willing but i wanted to give it a shot. I play skyrim se on the original xbox one. I've had these four followers that I wanted to created stuck in my head with no way…
Returning to Skyrim SSE
It's been a few years since I last messed around with Skyrim. Rather than spending hours trying to hunt down mods, I thought I'd crowdsource this and ask for some suggestions. I don't want to overhaul the game, or add quests, or replace the entire perk system. I just want…
